Historical Note Founded January 13, 1886, the International Order of The King's Daughters and Sons (IOKDS) [1902-1962] is an international and interdenominational organization of Christian men and women dedicated to service in Christ's name. The objects of the Order are "the development of spiritual life and the stimulation of Christian activities." Its threefold program are Religious, Educational and Philanthropic, with the purpose of training its members for Christian Service. Members are organized in Circles and the Order is presently active in Branches (states and provinces) and several foreign countries.” – IOKDS web site The Benevolent Circle (founded in 1950) and Opportunity Circle (founded in 1956) were based in Plainfield, NJ, but are not currently active. This collection includes the constitution, by-laws, and correspondence of the Benevolent Circle, in addition to several bound volumes, including a roll book, a cook book, and meeting minutes. The “International Order of The King’s Daughters and Sons” collection is available for research. Access is restricted to materials prepared by the Local History department staff. All materials must be viewed in the Plainfield Room and may not be removed to another area of the library without permission of the Library Director or designee. Materials must be handled carefully and kept in order. Materials must not be leaned upon, altered, folded, ripped, or traced upon. Marks may not be added or erased from materials. Materials must be returned directly to Local History department staff and inspected before the researcher leaves the Plainfield Room.
One photocopy may be made (by Plainfield Public Library staff) of each document for the purpose of research; official Local History departmental reproduction fees may apply. Permission to publish must be obtained by the Plainfield Public Library Board of Trustees as delegated to the Library Director. Permission to publish does not constitute a copyright clearance.
