Computer Classes
Registration for the second session of the Spring 2013 series of Computer Classes is now open. Please visit the Reference Desk to register.
The Library offers FREE computer classes to Plainfield Public Library cardholders in good standing who are 18 years of age or older. All others are required to pay a per-class fee of $10.00. You can sign up for classes at the Reference Desk in the Library.
*** All classes require the user to be able to read, write, and speak English ***
The following classes have previously been offered by the Plainfield Public Library. Check the Library's Event Calendar for future dates (computer classes will be marked with a purple box in the "Event Type" field).
Computer Basics (BAS101) is the first class in the series (the other option is WIN 101) designed to familiarize users with basic computing, including the parts of a computer and how to use a mouse and keyboard. Students will also learn about basic Windows components such as the desktop, icons, folders, and menus. |

Introduction to Microsoft Word (MSW101) is for the user unfamiliar with a computer word processor. This class teaches the basic functions in Word to help the user create resumes and other documents. Prerequisite: WIN101, BAS101, OR proficiency with a mouse and keyboard. |

Intermediate Microsoft Word (MSW201) teaches users how to create tables, borders and page formatting. Students will improve upon the skills they acquired in MSW 101. Prerequisite: MSW101 |

Introduction to Microsoft Excel (MSE101) allows user to create phone lists for use at work or home, and the formatting of cells. Prerequisite: WIN101, BAS101, OR proficiency with a mouse and keyboard. |

Intermediate Microsoft Excel (MSE201) users learn how to create a budget, and use formulas to calculate numbers. Students will improve upon the skills they acquired in MSW 101. Prerequisite: MSE101

Introduction to Power Point (MSP101) will help first-time users learn to create presentations with zing. Presentations will include animation, slide effects and graphics. Prerequisite: WIN101, BAS101, OR proficiency with a mouse and keyboard.

Promotional Materials (PM101) users will learn how to make promotional materials such as signs, flyers, and brochures using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher. Prerequisite: WIN101 OR BAS101, AND MSW 101. |

Microsoft IT Academy

Study to become a Microsoft Certified Professional and show employers that you have the necessary skills for today's workforce. Plainfield Residency is not required to enroll in the Plainfield Public Library's Adult Digital Literacy Program! One-on-One Computer Training
The Library offers 30-minute sessions of one-on-one help from a Librarian with a selection of computer issues on Tuesdays from 10am-12Noon, by appointment only, in the Job Assistance Center on the main floor. Covered topics include:

- Excel
- Facebook & Twitter
- Internet Browsing/Searching
- Power Point
- Word
