MARAC Honors Plainfield Public Library
The Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference - New Jersey Caucus
has selected the Plainfield Public Library as the recipient of the
2006 MARAC NJ Caucus Institutional Service Award.
Chairman of the Awards Committee, Gary Saretzky, cited Library Director Joe Da Rold and Local History Head Jessica Myers for
making "outstanding progress in acquiring, processing, describing, and preserving local history archives."
"Plainfield Public Library is also doing a fine job making its archival
resources available to researchers both on site and via its web page
and has promoted knowledge of archives through hosting local history fairs and excellent exhibitions of materials from its collections."
Plainfield Public Library becomes only the second public library in
the state to receive the award, since its inception in 1997. Past winners have been the New Jersey Historical Commission;
New Jersey State Archives; Monmouth County Historical Association; Joint Free Public Library of Morristown & Morris Township;
New Jersey State Library; Monmouth County Archives; Special Collections & Archives at Rutgers University; Camden County Historical Society; and Rare Books and Special Collections at Princeton University.
