Literacy Department Awards
2007 was a remarkable year for the Library’s Literacy program. Here are the highlights of the year:
- Re-accreditation from ProLiteracy
- The annual Literacy Recognition Luncheon. Initiated in 1995, all tutors and students are invited free-of-charge at a local restaurant. Jim Byrd was an outstanding emcee.
- Creation of Los Amigos (ESL) Club
- We entered into a Shared-Services Partnership with LV Union County
- Responding to a need for more ESL classes on different days and at different times of the week, we increased the number of ESL classes from 6 per week to 22 ESL classes per week.
- 100% increase of tutor and student activity.
In recognition of our 2007 achievements, we received:
- 2008 Award from the New Jersey Library Association for Outstanding Service Brochure (Literacy Recruitment brochure)
- 2008 Award from the New Jersey Library Association for Outstanding Library Service Group
- 2008 Alice M. Leppert Award for Outstanding Literacy Affiliate from Literacy Volunteers of New Jersey.
