Computers and Information Technology Services at the Library

Free computer classes to library cardholders who are 18 years of age or older.

The Library offers a variety of computer-related services for adults and youngsters. All computer users must show their Plainfield Public Library card.

ADULT SERVICES - MAIN FLOOR

·  13 computers with free Internet access to all patrons over 18
·  4 public access stations for access to the card catalog
·  12 computers with word processing capabilities, with access to resume templates to aid in job searches as well as other features of the suite
·  1 computer set up specifically for our Spanish-speaking patrons complete with a Spanish keyboard
·  7 online subscription databases for specialized research
·  15 specialized databases through the JerseyClicks service of the New Jersey State Library
·  Access to Microsoft Office Suite 2000 tutorials to learn word-processing, databases and spreadsheets

Time limits for computer use on the main floor include 1/2 hour for "E-mail express" and one hour for other use.

YOUTH SERVICES - LOWER LEVEL

·  The Young Peoples' Room offers 5 word-processing computers in the Afterschool Homework Center to help students complete their research and assignments. Programs include Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher, plus printing capability.
·  2 computers for access to the card catalog
·  2 computers featuring the Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft tutorials and the Encarta Encyclopedia

The time limit for computer use in the Young People's Room is 1/2 hour if others are waiting.

COMPUTER TRAINING - LOWER LEVEL

The library's Computer Training Lab offers free computer classes. See contact information below.

The Lab, with 10 terminals, is available to the general public and local businesses for scheduled classes only. Introductory classes will be the first to be presented. If you would like to suggest specific topics, please contact the Information Technology Coordinator at the number listed below.

Are you interested in sharing your computer knowledge? Do you have prior teaching experience? If so, please contact the
