The congregation of Temple Sholom was formally organized and incorporated in November 1913. It originally leased space just over the border in North Plainfield. After the congregation grew too large for that locale, the Plainfield building at 815 West Seventh Street was constructed. It was completed and dedicated on December 11, 1927. That building was later expanded and an addition created, holding a new sanctuary and social hall. The first Friday night service was held there on March 24, 1961 and the formal dedication made in November of that year. In 2001 the congregation voted to move to a new location. The building was sold to Rose of Sharon Community Church in 2003 which has leased it to the Queen City Charter School. |
